Great Service

The Heights of Abraham

Dale Rd, Matlock Bath, Matlock DE4 3NT, UK – 01629 582365

Loved it! Great day out for the family with a great price. Plenty to do such as visiting caves/mines and the views are amazing. The cable cars are not as bad as you think and I personally found them very fun. Only things to consider is that there is a lot of walking and it’s all up hill. There are also a lot of steps when visiting the caves. Also not many places for lunch, there is a little restaurant but can get very busy. Would definitely recommend and go back.

The cable car ride is a fun start. Plenty for children to do and take part in. The cave tours are interesting. Take something warm and dry its a bit chilly and wet in there. Food and drink is good quality but quite pricey. There are pinic benches if you take your own food. The views are spectacular. There are lots of steps and steep climbs up and down. Lots to do for all but a bit expensive. You have to pay for parking and the bays are quite small. The area itself is great for visitors with loads of shops and interesting places to get a glimse of our history.

Cromford Mills

Mill Rd, Cromford, Matlock DE4 3RQ, UK – 01629 823256

We had a great day out looking around the mill. The visited centre was great value for money, especially the Arkwright experience. The shops there are very good to look around and the cafe had a wide range of gluten free cakes. We could take a lovely walk in nature down by the canal as well.

Unique historical location: the birthplace of modern manufacturing. The experience is nice, and takes about 40 minutes. The guided tour takes also about 40 minutes and gives a good overview of the site's history. Payable parking. Regretfully despite all efforts; beyond the buildings, there are not many historical objects left.

Hall Leys Park

Causeway Ln, Matlock DE4 3AR, UK – 01629 761377

Nice clean park, quiet areas with good array of flowers, bowling green and children's play area. The care is well worth a visit with young polite staff. For the more adventurous there is a good skate park area, overall a well maintained park. Don't miss the boating Lake and kiddies wet play area and little David the train and his very friendly driver.

Absolutely lovely park. Really nicely landscaped and has an amazing display of different plants and flowers. Very tidy and well maintained. Plenty of seating and activities for the kids

Lea Gardens Ltd

Long La, Matlock DE4 5GH, UK – 01629 534380

Cafe has good cakes & large portions, gardens are really good. If you plan more than 1 visit get a season ticket as (at time of writing single adult entry £5 (children 50p) but adult season £9 - so great value for multiple visits. Note many parts of gardens have steps / steep slopes as was designed over 80 years ago and so stepped parts are not wheelchair accessible and steep slopes depend on chair power (or strength of person pushing the chair). Only reason for 4 instead of 5 is awkward paths - had to leave disabled companion at the cafe while walking the gardens but that historic layout is part of the charm

I thought about not posting a review for this little gem of a place so we can keep it secret and less busy!!! Lea gardens is a beautiful place. There are lovely little pathways to explore the gardens. There is a hidden castle for the little ones to play in, which our 3 year old loves!!! The cafe is basic, but serves delicious cake, and the coffee is also great. A true hidden gem 👍

Great website!. Click below to find gardens open during the year around Wirksworth or Derbyshire. There are photos and lots of detail about the garden.
